The Royal Opera features prominently in this year’s What’s On Stage Opera Poll, where the public can vote for their favourite performances from 2014/15.
Kasper Holten’s Royal Opera production of Król Roger is recognized with a nomination for Best New Opera Production, while Polish baritone Mariusz Kwiecień receives a nomination for Outstanding Achievement in an Operatic Role for his performance in the title role.
Swedish soprano Nina Stemme is also nominated for Outstanding Achievement in an Operatic Role for her performances as Isolde in Christof Loy’s production of Tristan und Isolde. The production is also nominated for Best Opera Revival.
Two young singers receive nominations in the Breakthrough Artist in UK Opera category: American soprano Janai Brugger for her performances as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, and Australian soprano Nicole Car for her performances as Micaëla in Carmen. There’s another chance to see Car at the Royal Opera House with her upcoming performances as Tatyana in Eugene Onegin.
British mezzo-soprano Susan Bickley is nominated for her Outstanding Contribution to the UK Operatic Scene, in recognition of her performances as Silvia in Orfeo at the Roundhouse, in addition to roles with other companies throughout the year.
Other nominees include Glyndebourne's production of Saul, English National Opera's Edward Gardner and Mark Wigglesworth for the company's production of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, and Opera North's production of Jenůfa.
The public vote is open until 31 December 2015 and What’s On Stage will announce the winners on 4 January 2016.
